Review: X-Men Blue #9 from Marvel Comics

X-Men Blue #9 lays the groundwork for some interesting plot points as Marvel’s Secret Empire reaches Cullen Bunn’s Original X-Men.

Review: X-Men Blue #9

It is worth noting that the cover art for X-Men: Blue #9 is by Art Adams and Peter Steigerwald, and is an homage to X-Men #50 – the first appearance of Polaris.

X-Men: Blue #9 follows the story of the original X-Men during the Secret Empire Event. They have come to the mutant nation of New Tian, and have been captured, all save for Jean Grey, Jimmy Hudson, and Danger.

X-Men Blue #9 detail

Polaris arrives at the behest of Magneto – as back-up to Jean and Jimmy as they go to free the other X-Men – and reunites with her former love, Havok – fighting him on the battlefield.

The X-Men break free, then search for Cyclops – who was last seen in the clutches of Emma Frost at the end of the last issue. Much to their surprise, they find him as a mindless puppet, controlled by the White Queen herself.

X-Men Blue #9 detailWe find out that she means to re-write Cyclops’ mind to make him more like the original Scott Summers – who is now dead – and that she has been so powerful because she has a cosmic cube fragment.

This story comes down to a great fight between the White Queen and Jean Grey, resulting in the X-Men’s escape from New Tian.

An interesting development is that the psi-battle between jean and Emma (with Cyclops in tow) resulted in a psychic link being formed between Scott and Jean.

This is not the first time this have happened between the pair, but does this mean that their relationship will evolve past that of being teammates?

Verdict: This comic was an enjoyable read. There was interesting artwork, good story development for it being a tie-in issue of Secret Empire, and it lays the groundwork for some interesting plot points in the future.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars!

Solicitation: Silver Sable comes back into Spider-Man’s life… but isn’t she dead? Norman Osborn has worked his way into a position of power in Symkaria, and any incursion by Spider-Man will be seen as an act of war. Will Spider-Man risk international infamy to take down his most dangerous foe?

Review

Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #26Striking with a classic villain, Norman Osborn (The Green Goblin) has returned!

Norman has been working underground selling weapons and arms to the highest bidder and he has interrupted a Parker Industries event to do just that. Spider-Man intervenes with the help of the back from the grave Silver Sable to try to stop the madman.

There are some great Spidey quips in this issue and the fast pace of an action adventure movie. The issue ends with Peter Parker going all out and planning to attack the Goblin in Symkaria, his base of operations and Silver Sable’s homeland.

Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #26 artThis information, subtly supplied to S.H.I.E.L.D. by the Superior Octopus, has caused the organization to cut all ties with Parker and in a surprise ending twist, now puts SHIELD and Parker Industries against one another.

What is in store for our hero in the next issues? Is Parker Industries on the road to ruin? Will the Green Goblin destroy Spider-Man and all that he has built? Well, we can only know by picking up the next issue which is a for sure thing to do because it is an interesting and entertaining story.

The Amazing Spider-man hasn’t disappointed yet!

Verdict: Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #260
4.5 out of 5 stars
